A few weeks ago we brought you the designer’s perspective about their Full Figured Fashion Week experience. This week we want to share with you a few of the experiences that some of models that have participated on the show in the past had.
If you are a plus model or an aspiring one and you want to be on the show, take some of these ladies advice. They literally have been there, done that. Check it out!!
Plus model Brittany Cordts says:
“This will be my third year in a row participating in FFFWeek and I can’t wait!!. I’ve always had a great experience with everyone involved.
You are able to network with so many people throughout the week, get an invaluable runway lesson from The Original Runway Diva Miss Sharon Quinn, work with a variety of designers and retailers, and bond with other models in the industry.
It is a very unique experience and one that you can take away as much as you put into it.
The main thing is to work hard, remain enthusiastic and be professional. As a result of walking in FFFWeek, I even booked a few jobs with new clients who spotted me on the runway. You never know who is watching in the audience or which designer will keep you in mind after the show”.
Plus model Samantha Lebbie says:
“Full Figured Fashion Week is where it truly began for me. I had only been modeling for 6 months and there I was modeling alongside women I watched on youtube and see on social media.I prepared for that moment and I went at it full force I made up some Comp Cards to hand out to any and everyone.
So many amazing things happened over the course of 5 days but I will keep it brief.I got interviewed by so many people and made appearances in several magazines including: Ebony,The New Yorker and Plus Model Magazine just to name a few.
After the event, I received a call from the Creative Director of Ashley Stewart and she asked that I come in the next Day too shoot their Denim Campaign, I was floored. While in NY shooting I received another call from MYNT1792 asking me to come in for a fitting to be their Fit Model.
So many opportunities arise from FFFWeek for me that I would suggest that any woman who truly wants to be a Professional Model should audition and give it your all.
I am happy to say that I have done campaigns for Ashley Stewart and to this day you can find me on their Website and in stores. Thanks so much to Gwen & Sharon for believing in me”.
Plus Model Nedra Philips says:
“FFF Week has changed my life in numerous ways. My self confidence in my look and style has increased tremendously. I no longer doubt my look or professionalism as a full figured model. Knowing that Gwen Devoe and Sharon Quinn have chosen me three years in a row has blown my mind.
Thousands of women competed for a chance to grace that stage in the NYC.
Also this event has afforded me the opportunity to network with some heavy hitters in the plus size community, a network that will allow me to cross over into other avenues after I stop ripping the runway. The last and most important change for me is that I am an example of what can happen when you follow your dreams and passion. Many young ladies look to me as a role model and I don't take that lightly. I want to show them that no matter your size, you are beautiful”.
